Ingredients
- 2lbs mild italian sausage
- 2 28oz cans san marzano whole peeled tomatoes
- 2 medium onions
- 5 cloves garlic
- 1/2tsp each dried: oregano, basil, thyme
- 1 bay leaf
Method
- Brown italian sausage in olive oil; set aside and pat out oil with towel.
- Using same pot, cook onions and garlic in sausage oil over low heat until translucent.
- Add tomatoes to pot; crush tomatoes.
- Add herbs, salt and pepper to taste.
- Add sausage to sauce mixture; stir to combine.
- Let simmer for atleast an hour.
Optional enhancements
- Add crushed red pepper with onions to give sauce a kick
- Add tomato paste with onions to deepen flavor
- Melt in 2tbps butter after simmering to smooth flavor
